Linda Gray, farmstand manager

Linda Gray has lived in Norwich with her family since 1986, gardening all the while. Under pressure from deer, she turned her focus to perennial flowers and has gotten veggies from a local CSA since 1996.

She started at Cedar Circle Farm in 2009, after working over 17 years at the Montshire Museum of Science and 18 months at a Middlebury College program while it was based in White River Junction. She loves working outdoors after so many years at a desk!

As farmstand manager, Linda organizes the staffing schedule for the stand, trains and manages the stand staff, orders the retail items that come from off the farm (such as local milk, cheeses, yogurt, and fruits), organizes the farmstand displays, and coordinates with the greenhouse and field crews. (She also sorts things out when the cash register or credit card machine doesn’t behave.)

One of the most satisfying aspects of working at Cedar Circle is playing a role in getting good local food “from farm to plate.” In her first season at the farm, Linda thought a lot about the phrase on one of the cafe’s mugs, “Eating is an agricultural act,” and the large ripples we send out when we buy our food.
